Wii has “Glee” but no “Fallout”

In most cases, when someone breaks off a relationship, their go-to excuse is, “It’s not you, it’s me.” However, Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls developer Bethesda has made no secret of the fact that, from their standpoint, the Wii just isn’t pulling its weight. “The stuff we’re doing is a better fit on the other platforms,” according to executive producer Todd Howard. This comes as a slap in the face to Wii fans who insist that the system can accommodate a variety of games. The system’s family-friendly image isn’t hurting any with the recent announcement of an exclusive Glee game, based on the Fox musical drama that is a masterpiece according to fans, and annoying and bewildering according to everyone else. However, Karaoke Revolution: Glee could work on its own merits, even if you ignore the franchise. The game ships with a wired microphone and offers the ability to sing along to songs from the show. Players are graded according to pitch and rhythm. The game will include clips from the show featuring characters like Rachel Berry, football player Finn Hudson, and Glee Club leader Will Schuester. Up to 35 songs are planned for the title, along with multiple game options including career, quick game, and multiplayer (complete with duets and harmonies).Karaoke Revolution: Glee is guaranteed to sell, based on the show’s pre-existing fans. Apart from that, it should be an entertaining music-game romp. Still, we hope that the success of titles like Monster Hunter 3 will prove to developers that the Wii is capable of sustaining deeper, more mature game titles. It’s the same accusation of cleanliness that plagued the Gamecube, and look what happened to it. Take a chance on something a little different, and maybe we’ll see developers like Bethesda changing their minds in the future.
